The Process
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg provides the approval and certification for foster families for the children that are placed out of their home. Foster care services are provided to individuals, couples and families regardless of religion, race, sex, age or nationality.
At Catholic Charities the application process begins with:
- An orientation meeting to provide information and answer questions.
- Includes a minimum age.
- Verification that your income allows you to meet your expenses.
- A criminal record check at local, state and federal levels including finger printing and no prior record of child abuse or neglect.
- A reference from a doctor to ensure that all household members are free from diseases that a child could catch.
- In sufficient health to parent a child.
- Letters of reference from an employer and others who know you.
State regulations require foster parents to receive six hours of training annually, in addition to maintaining certification in child and adult CPR and first aid.
